Claude Poirier Defoy award
Claude Poirier Defoy Award
This award was created in honour of Mr. Claude Poirier Defoy, who served on the Foundation board of directors for 15 years on a voluntary basis, including 11 years as chair. The Claude Poirier Defoy Award is given out each year to a volunteer who has achieved distinction through his or her involvement in the Foundation.
MR. RAYMOND BRUNET
Mr. Brunet began volunteering in 2006, when he took part in the Kilimanjaro Challenge. In 2008 and 2009, he and a team from his company (Ed Brunet and Associates) organized the Défi Ski Santé to raise funds for our Foundation. In 2010 and 2011, he took part in the Défi des grands voyageurs. Enthusiastic about this project, he also mobilized 15 of his employees to share the route with him between Quebec City and Gatineau (his team raised more than $50,000 for the event). In 2012 he chaired the organizing committee for the highly successful Défi Champlain, which raised a total of $315,000. In addition to supporting the Foundation’s public activity sector, he freely volunteers for its Major Gifts Committee to help search for and solicit major donors. Thank you for everything, Mr. Brunet!
MR. GILLES LAVOIE
It was his interest in the plan to set up a pulmonology clinic that led Mr. Gilles Lavoie, CEO of Pilon Ltée, to start volunteering for the Foundation. First he was honorary chair of the 2013 Défi Ski Santé, organized by CIMA + to raise funds for the pulmonology clinic. His network of contacts, and almost daily involvement, helped increase the funds raised from this event from $31,000 to $65,000. He also formed a group of close associates to conduct a fundraising campaign for the same project, for which the initial target of $300,000 has since risen to $800,000. Following the success of Défi Ski Santé 2013, the Organizing Committee asked Mr. Lavoie to consider being honorary chair of the next edition. He accepted, on condition that he could set the fundraising target to $100,000. On March 20, organizers announced that $105,000 had been raised for the 2014 edition of this winter event. Thank you for your involvement and commitment, Mr. Lavoie!
